New magnetic shielding of ECAL
Electromagnetic calorimeter ECAL will operate in about 3 Gauss magnetic field. Used photomultipliers are very sensitive to magnetic field of even less than 1 Gauss and thus magnetic field of even less than 1 Gauss and thus magnetic shielding is a needed component of the detector.
Optical monitoring system for ECAL detector delivered
First two pieces of the optical monitoring system for the ECAL detector, experiment HADES, were delivered at the end of May 2017. Optical monitoring system will enable regular control of every single module of the ECAL detector by sending short light pulses directly into the lead glass. These pulses will be read-out by photomultiplier and the output electric signal will be identical to the signals invoked by the real particles.

Next from the GSI visits dedicated to assembly of ECAL modules was successfully fulfilled at the beginning of December 2016. In total 53 modules were (re)assembled an are ready to be tested in the upcoming weeks by colleagues from Institute for Nuclear Research from Russian Academy of Sciences, Moscow.
